No plans for new year? Visit the city of Cusco – Peru

The arrival of the New Year  is approaching and certainly many of us want to spend it in a place where we can start the year with good vibes and positive energy, so we recommend you visit the ancient city of Cusco.
The city of Cusco throughout the year receives thousands of tourists who come to visit the modern wonder Machu Picchu and it is at this time that a large number of national and foreign tourists are concentrated to renew their energy in the Navel of the World.

The night of December 31 the concentration point is in the Plaza de Armas of Cusco where the municipality offers free concerts and people celebrate with great excitement while they wait for midnight, you can see some people circling around the square with their suitcases, this is a belief practiced by people who wish to travel to some part of the world in the coming year.

Among other popular customs new years eve cusco peru  07 is to eat 12 grapes and wear yellow underwear to attract luck and money, if you want to participate in one of these traditions you can buy what you need at local fairs that are only for this day in the main streets and squares such as San Francisco and San Pedro.

What to do and where to go?

To spend the New Year in Cusco it is recommended to stay at least 4 days in which you can take advantage to know the main tourist places of the city such as Coricancha, Sacsayhuaman , the beautiful Sacred Valley , the salt mines of Maras Salt and of course Macchu Picchu. However, if you want to visit a place a little less known and crowded by tourists, you can choose to visit the Humantay Lagoon .

This beautiful lagoon that is located at the foot of the Nevado de Humantay and that is on the route to know the Salkantay, is a quiet place where the calm, harmonious landscape stands out and it is also a very good destination if you want to start the year full of adrenaline because in the town of Soraypampa, which is the town from where the trek to the lagoon begins, you can make Zip Line before or after, without a doubt a destination in which it is worth receiving the New Year.

Another slightly less commercial destination is the Perolniyoc waterfall with its almost 100 m. In the fall, this beautiful waterfall is an hour and a half from Ollantaytambo which is accessed by car to the town of Socma and then a short and quiet walk of about 45 minutes. You can visit this place before going to Ollantaytambo to board the train to Machu Picchu.

As you can see there are several places that the city of Cusco offers, places where you can renew energy, meet new people and of course meet a culture as rich as the Andean as well.

Where to Stay?
